Kayaks and paddleboards
Avila Beach Paddlesports

Surfboards, bodyboards and wetsuits
- The Sea Barn on the promenade rents boards, bodyboards and wetsuits, and runs Sea Barn Beach Rentals for other beach gear.
- Avila Beach Surf Shop, family-owned, rents boards and wetsuits.
- Under the Pier rents boards and wetsuits in summer.
Lessons and spots: surfing.
Fishing tackle
Patriot Sportfishing at Port San Luis rents tackle and sells fishing licenses for its boat trips. You don't need a license to fish from Harford Pier. The Avila Beach Pier is mostly closed for repairs. See fishing.

Sycamore Mineral Springs rents 24 private hillside hot tubs by the hour, from 8 a.m. to 10:45 p.m. See hot springs and spas.
Boats
We couldn't find any self-drive boat rentals in Avila. To get out on the bay, book a whale watching trip, a sportfishing trip or a guided kayak tour.
Local tips
- Reserve bikes and kayaks ahead on summer weekends; walk-ins are easier midweek.
- Rent a wetsuit along with any board; the shops that rent boards rent wetsuits too.
- Kayak and paddleboard rentals are easiest in the morning, before the wind picks up.
