Weddings & Group Events

In Avila you can have a ceremony on the sand, a reception in a garden, or vows on a bluff at a historic lighthouse. It works for reunions, retreats and company parties too. The town is small, so book venues and rooms early.

Beach ceremonies

For a ceremony on the town beaches (the sand on both sides of the Avila Beach Pier, Olde Port Beach or Fisherman's Beach), San Luis Obispo County's clerk-recorder sends you to the Port San Luis Harbor District. Call 805-595-5400 or see the Port's special events page before you plan anything on the sand. The Avila Beach Pier itself is mostly closed for repairs, so don't plan photos on it.

The Avila

The renamed Avila Beach Golf Resort hosts beach ceremonies, receptions, banquets and holiday parties in flexible spaces for groups of all sizes. Mulligan's Bar + Grill is on site, with casual food and a full bar. Holiday party dates in December fill fast.

Sycamore Mineral Springs Resort & Spa

Garden ceremonies and receptions, from small to large and formal. Packages range from a garden ceremony with a champagne hour to a full wedding with an exclusive Secret Garden reception. Every wedding includes a two-night stay in a king suite with a mineral springs hot tub. The resort is dog and family friendly, and its menus are seasonal and locally sourced.

Avila Beach House

The all-suites hotel across from the sand has an ocean-view sun deck for ceremonies, the Point San Luis Room and patio for receptions, and rooms on site. Its listing shows peak season as April to October, with lower site fees off-peak. Chairs, tables, linens, setup and cleanup are included in the site fee.

Point San Luis Lighthouse

A nationally registered historic site on a 30-acre property, with the ceremony on a private bluff and a separate area for the reception. Up to 100 guests. Outside vendors must be approved, and there's a preferred vendor list. No open flames, barbecues, fires or smoking. Beer and wine are allowed, but not hard alcohol. Call the lighthouse at 805-540-5771 for access and availability.

Group dinners and rehearsal dinners

For smaller groups, Front Street restaurants and Gardens of Avila at Sycamore Mineral Springs are good places for a rehearsal dinner. Avila's tasting rooms are also an easy group outing. See Restaurants and Wine Tasting.

Where guests stay

Avila's five hotels and inns fill up on summer weekends, so reserve a block of rooms early. Vacation rentals work well for families and wedding parties. Compare them on Where to Stay, and look at nearby towns for overflow.
