Vacation Rentals

A vacation rental makes sense in Avila if you're a family, a group, or staying more than a couple of nights. You get a kitchen, more space, and often a patio. Avila's rentals range from studio cottages downtown to large homes up in the hills.

Where the rentals are

Downtown Avila Beach. Most rentals are in or near the village, on streets like San Miguel, San Luis and Landing Passage. Many are a three-minute walk to the sand, Front Street restaurants and the tasting rooms.

Avila Valley. Homes and condos along Avila Beach Drive and in the valley neighborhoods are quieter and closer to the Bob Jones Trail, the Avila Valley Barn and Sycamore Mineral Springs.

See Canyon. A few cabins and homes sit up See Canyon Road among the apple farms, about three miles from the beach. Good if you want a rural stay.

How to book

Avila has dozens of vacation rentals. Some are run by local management companies, some by their owners, and many also show up on Airbnb and VRBO. The local companies below know the town and handle most of the homes close to the beach.

Two local management companies handle rentals in Avila. Booking through one gives you a local office to call if something comes up during your stay.

What to check before you book

• The permit. In Avila Beach, a legal rental needs a county Vacation Rental Zoning Clearance, a business license and a Transient Occupancy Tax certificate. The county's coastal vacation rental guide explains the rules.

• Minimum stay and fees. Cleaning fees and minimum nights change by season and by owner.
