Avila Hot Springs sits at 250 Avila Beach Drive, at the inland end of the Avila Valley. Oil drillers hit the spring in 1907, and the Budan family later built the resort around it. The flow has held steady for more than 100 years.
The two pools
The hot mineral pool is 20 by 20 feet and about two feet deep. The spring water comes up at 130 to 135°F and is cooled with fresh water to about 104°F. Next to it is a 50 by 100 foot freshwater swimming pool, warmed by heat from the spring, with water slides on weekends. An ADA pool lift is available.
A day pass covers both pools. Kids under 8 aren't allowed in the mineral pool.
Camping
A small campground at the back of the property has dry tent sites and RV sites for rigs up to 25 feet. Your stay includes the pools. The rules and rates are on our Camping & RV page.
Before or after a soak
The Bob Jones Trail runs through the valley toward the beach, so a walk or bike ride followed by a soak makes a good day. The warm water also makes it a good pick on a cool, gray day. See more rainy day ideas. For private hillside tubs instead of a public pool, see Sycamore Mineral Springs, or compare both on Hot Springs & Spas.
Local tips
- Go before noon or after 5 p.m. for the $18 pass.
- Kids under 8 can't use the hot mineral pool, so plan on the big pool with them.
- The water slides run on weekends from noon to 5 p.m., and riders must be 45 inches tall.
- Not swimming? A spectator pass is $10.
