Kelsey See Canyon Vineyards is a family farm and winery at 1947 See Canyon Road, a few minutes' drive from Avila Beach. The Kelsey family started making wine here in 1999, on a creekside property shaded by sycamores.
Apple wines and cider
See Canyon is apple country, and when the Kelseys bought the ranch it came with plenty of apples. So they started blending them in, pressing the fruit and fermenting it with chardonnay or red blends. Today the list has red wines, white wines, apple wines and hard ciders, including original, blood orange, pineapple and POG flavors.
Peacocks and picnics
The family rescued a few peacocks from an old ranch in Avila years ago, and now a big flock roams the grounds. The picnic lawn makes it a relaxed stop with kids or a dog. Bring lunch from Woodstone Marketplace or the Avila Valley Barn.
Making a day of See Canyon
The road is lined with apple ranches. Follow the Farms & the Apple Trail guide for more stops, and plan a sober driver. Check the website for tasting hours before you go. For tasting rooms you can walk to, see Wine Tasting.
