The Secret Garden is the casual outdoor cafe at Sycamore Mineral Springs Resort, set right beside the Bob Jones Trail. It's built as a pit stop for people walking and riding the trail, with shade under the trees, sun if you want it, and room for your dog.

What they serve

Mornings mean cinnamon rolls and fresh coffee. Afternoons bring homemade baked goods, garden salads, cold beer and local wine. The full menu is on the resort's website.

The cafe is open every day from 10 a.m. until dusk, but it's outdoors, so it closes in bad weather.

On the trail

The Secret Garden makes a good turnaround or halfway stop on the Bob Jones Trail. Woodstone Marketplace is the other easy food stop along the way. For a dressier meal at the same resort, there's Gardens of Avila, and the resort's hillside mineral hot tubs are covered on Hot Springs & Spas.

Bringing the dog? See Avila with Dogs for beach hours and other dog-friendly stops.

Local tips

  • Get there in the morning for the cinnamon rolls.
  • It's outdoors and weather permitting, so skip it on a rainy day.
  • Bring the dog; it's one of the most dog-friendly stops on the trail.
